Our LEED AP explores independent, third-party “green” certifications at Cincinnati U.S. Green Building Council’s regional event
Did you know that the third-party indoor-air certification that assures you that the paint you’re using won’t pollute your home relies on testing that is done after the paint is applied to a surface?
“We have not determined a proper test for emissions during the application process,” Mark Rossolo, public affairs director for GREENGUARD Environmental Institute, said during a panel discussion two weeks ago.
The panel was part of a regional “Greening the Heartland” conference hosted by the Cincinnati Regional Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council. I was drawn to this discussion because of the continuing consumer confusion over differences between independent certifications, and other less-stringent “green” certifications.
