11 Apr Looking In — and Out
Backyard deer-feeder adds unmatchable natural touch, felt throughout this home’s interior
Porcelain tile flooring – one style for the kitchen and laundry room, another for the foyer and bathrooms – offers clean lines and extreme durability.
It blends seamlessly with the hand-scraped, prefinished hardwood flooring, which has been used to replace carpet in the dining room.
Triexta carpet – made from corn-based fuel – softens the family room, which is filled with natural light, thanks to large windows there, and in the adjoining foyer. Standing there, something tells you to look again, out of the double glass doors in the family room.
And while you are looking out, you will be surprised to see what is looking in. Three very happy deer.
Clearly, textures, hues and the natural aesthetic drove this Spring Valley, OH homeowner’s selections. But her flooring selections also score points as people- and planet friendly.
Porcelain tile is fired at extremely high temperatures, which not only makes it very strong, but also ensure that any chemical content off-gases during the manufacturing process, not later in the home.
The tile came from two manufactures, one of which – Florida Tile – makes the product within 500 miles of Cincinnati. The carpet, SmartStrand Silk, is made from corn-based fuel rather than petroleum. This material, called Triexta, is extremely resistant to stains, so it does not require the use of chemicals for stain-proofing.
Walnut, 5-inch plank, flooring complements the furniture, blends with the browns in the tile and adds balancing contrast to the light carpet color.
As you keep looking around, you will be confident that any desired color or texture is easily achieved.
But your view of this home will not be complete if you don’t look out the back window.©
